One Hit Wonders 1959 (2)

In our second installment of "One hit Wonders" 1959 we start with Frankie Ford.  I'm sure we are all familiar with this One!
Frankie Ford (born August 4, 1939) is an american rock and roll and rhythm and blues singer.  He is the adopted son of Vincent and Anna Guzzo, who named him Francis Guzzo.  He was born in Gretna, Louisiana, across the Mississippi River from New Orleans, where he still lives.  Ford had a Top 20 hit in 1959 wth "Sea Cruise" sung to a previously recorded Huey "Piano" Smith backing track, released on Ace Records.  The record sold over one million copies, gaining gold disc status. He was known as the "New Orleans Dynamo" and still spends about 200 days a year on the road.  wiki
The Fiestas were an American Rythm and Blues musical group from Newark, New Jersey.

Organized in 1951, The Fiestas contracted with Old Town Records Company in 1959 after the company's owner, Hy Weiss, overheard the group singing in a bathroom adjacent to his office in Harlem. Their debut single was 1959's "So Fine", written by Johnny Otis; the song was a hit in the U.S., reaching #3 on the Black Singles chart and #11 on the Billboard Hot 100.  wiki
"See You in September" is a song written by Sid Wayne and Sherman Edwards.  The song was first recorded by the Pittsburg vocal group The Tempos.  This first version peaked at #23 in summer of 1959.  wiki
This song is NOT a "one hit wonder" . . . I'm throwing it in for free!!!  Do you remember what you were doing when this song played?
Just 5 weeks left until the 55th Class Reunion!  Are you ready?

Till Next Week

Harv, thanks for the latest 'Turntable' post, 'twas great. It caught the essence of 'music' in 1959 and brought back some really good memories... of me working at McDonalds and missing out on a lot of stuff... and all the gigs I had to play on the weekends to support my '50 Merc! Those were, indeed, the good ol' days.
