YEA!!!  tomorrow is April 1!!!

There are three points I would like to make about "April Fools Day"
                                   .
                                   .
                                         ,

(That third point is a bit more complex/emotional and may require additional contemplation)

What are our grandkids . .  ah . . . granddaughters listening to these days? Well, currently that would be "Roar"  Katy Perry. (406,257,099 hits on youtube)   Neat video and really good music!
Here's a quiz question:
Who wrote "The Sun Also Rises". . .   Let's see. . .  OK the first hand up is Jerry Leyendecker . . . no Sharon,  Jerry was first . . . I know you have trouble standing up quickly . . . no Sharon "it is fair". . . SHARON! SIT DOWN!  If Jerry gets it wrong you get the next chance.  I'm pretty sure you will get a chance  . .  after all . .  it's Jerry!

So, Jerry, who wrote "The Sun Also Rises"  . . . what? . . .  yes you may consult your legal counsels  J.Daniels & J.Beam . . .   Oh gee. .  . I feel bad Jerry. . . so close and yet it was not  "Furnacet Hammerway"!  So sorry! (Private Note to Jerry) -  "Jerry, you're sitting on your cat . . . again!"

Sharon, you're next.  I know how excited you are to give your answer but first listen carefully to the question.  Who wrote "The Sun Also Rises"?
Oh! Sharon. . . NO. . .  it was not John Denver!  Anyone Else?

Oh!  there's a hand.  It's "Phoebe" AKA Karen Reibetanz. OK Phoebe, Who wrote "The Sun Also Rises"  YES! you are absolutely correct!  It was Ernest Hemingway!   Nice job!  The next song is dedicated to you.  Ok let's spin the Turntable  . . . WOW!  . . .   lucky you!  . . .  you're gonna to LOVE this one!
Hey Kenny! . . . we know you're there! . . .  Haven't heard much from your corner lately.   I'm guessing it's because you don't want to call attention to the fact that it's sunny and warm there in Phoenix AZ . . . while the rest of us are "Freezing our "patooties" (thanks Dan) off"  Well, we're OK with it! . . . nice to see one of our members catching a break!  AND . . .  Southwestern desert music is great!  So, here ya go Ken!
Ok! Ok! Jerry, your home in Florida is . .  "really, really"  . .  warm too!  And the grass there is . . . "really really green".  Or you might say . . .  it's . . . "Green Green Grass". . . whew! . . . Here's your song Jerry.

Ahhhh! Springtime!

Excited? . . .  I am! . . .  Just think. . . temperatures into the high 30's, snow melting (hopefully)  The term Wind chill no longer to be added to the prevailing temperature.  We'll be able to enter the house without having to take off boots!  How totally wonderful!!!

Spring is many things to many people.  To some it's wonderful, fabulous, exciting, stimulating, stirring, rousing, intoxicating, invigorating, gripping, compelling, powerful, dramatic . . .  whew!  Think I got it covered?  How about "slammed without words" or "totally speechless" Don't get it??? Well watch this!
OK, different strokes!  Did I mention Springtime bringing temperature into the mid to upper 30's???  How about Alaska?  You know when it's springtime in Alaska . . . It's 40 below!  Just ask Johnny!
And Spring is just the beginning.  After all . .  next comes summer! Hooray!  Golfing, hiking, walking on the beach.  Man, I just can't wait.   And swimming . . . did I mention swimming?  We have a really nice swimming pool at the country club!  Everybody gets in and they just have a ball. Oh, but with all the fun, comes a bit of risk.  You know, not all of us are totally responsible citizens like (you know who) wink wink.  And of course, accidents happen.  Well take a look at this . .  you'll understand
So what's the big deal with spring.  Is it the warm weather?  The melting snow and the thought that our daily walks will be outside again?  That we'll be able grill out or smell the roses?  No!  It's the Anticipation!
And Carly's right  "These are the good old days!"

Till Next week

Dick Burns!!!  Welcome Back!  is played for all our members, but today, it's especially for you!  I had to go to the mat to make contact Dick.  You can run but you can't hide!

Dick's email address is 2wisokies@att.net  Give him your own personal welcome
Whew!!  The Holiday Season is over.  Now we need to deal with all that extra weight.
What we need is a real simple exercise plan.  Do you know who exercises a lot?  Jockeys do! So who better to give instructions than a real live jockey!  Here is a clip that I think you will find most informative and inspiring.
OK chances are that you won't be able to go from a prone position to standing in a smooth single move!  There are other ways to loose weight.  How about laughing your way to weight loss?  Dan, pay special attention . . .  these guys are really popular in Tennessee!
What?  Didn't work?  Well gaining weight is not our fault.  We have been influenced all our lives to gain weight!  Even when we were little kids, movies directed us into developing unsavory, fattening appetites.  Watch this clip and you'll see what I mean.
Bye Shirley!  You will be missed!

Till Next Week

Hi Everyone!

Whew!  Boy am I tired!  Daylight savings time . . . I just hate it!  Joan says "What's the big deal?"  I said that's easy for you to say!  I'm the one who has to stay up till 2:00AM to reset the clocks!

Sharon . . . had her knee replaced on Tuesday March 5th.  She is now back home.  How about a big "shout out" for the GIMPer!   . . . Hey Sharon! now you and the "State of Wisconsin"  have something in common.  You each have your own "Walker"!

Ok, enough of that!  This song is dedicated to John and Sharon. . and "Hey its good to be back home again!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1sjOg8TFYw

50's songs sometimes were tricky.  Take for example "You are my Special Angel"  performed by Bobby Helms and Bobby Vinton.  Bobby Helms recorded his version in 1957 . . . that's the one I remember clearly in high school.  Then Bobby Vinton recorded it in 1963 and did a great job . . but. . listen to them both carefully.  Which one turns your memories on???  For me it's Bobby Helms 1957 version!
In 1959 Bobby Vinton released "Venus".  What a smooth, cool song. Brings back Cruising, Pigeon Lake, Silver Lake, Lates, The Penguin, fall dances, bonfires, Lake Michigan . . . hitting any nerves here?  Like . . . one sunny winter afternoon. Torr picked us up in his Jeepster.  Not sure, but I believe it was Torr, Bill Ohde , Tom Westover, Burns and I.  We wore ski sweaters and blue jeans. . .  no coats!  Torr had the top down and we did the best we could to stand up while showing off as we "buzzed the gut!"  8th 10th and Washington streets in Manitowoc.  We were sooooo cool.  As a matter of fact. . . we froze our asses off!  Such is the cost of HS fun and (really?) fame!
"It's all in the Game" by Tommy Edwards,  takes me back to "Road Trips", drinking full quart bottles of beer and tooling "west" on highway 10 looking for adventure!  Not that I approve of that sort of behavior!  " It's all in the Game" is imbedded in all of our juvenile minds. It was the slow song that brought all the guys to the dance floor at the same time. Remember?  It was Bill Ohde's favorite song, one of my favorites and I can't think of one member of this group who doesn't genuinely love this song.
Take care of yourself Sharon and next week I'll leave you alone! . .  like that's gonna happen!

Till Next Week

Hi Everyone!
Hey, have you ever told a little lie?   Oh come on you know who your are.  A little white lie here or there . . . what's the difference . . . who gets hurt?  The first person (at least that I know of) that just "Told the Truth" was George Washington!  It went something like this "Yes father, it was I who cut down the cherry tree"  And what happened to George?  Was he punished by his father? . . .   No!  Why?  because George was being honest you say?  No, it was because George was still holding the axe!  Look, it's never good to lie.  Even "little white lies "!
WHEW!, what a mess.  So how did he get out of that marriage? Another little white lie! WOW  Seems they just keep piling up!  What the heck do you do???   Well, I've found myself in tough spots too. Mostly self induced!  . . . so I"m thinking . . .  I need to stop,  clear my mind . . . and . . . "have a little talk with myself"!
I think we all find ourselves having personal issues from time to time.  After all . . . we've been around a long time!!  So we keep trying . .  keep changing . .  and work hard to make ourselves better people. I can't say I'm there yet but "I'm on my Way"!
Till Next Week
