4th ANNIVERSARY EDITION          The First Turntable - September 23, 2013

Good Morning Everyone
Do you believe it?  It is now FOUR YEARS and Over 208 Turntable releases since that first Turntable back in 2013.  Lots of stuff , some good, some bad, has happened since then.  Now, here we are, still getting together on Monday each week listening to our old HS music and trading messages/barbs from time to time.  Not bad for a bunch of old geezers don't ya think?
Since September 23, 2013 we've added a "Website" collecting all previous Turntable history and packing it on the website in a retrievable format.    In the last few years we added "The flipSide", PICTURESQUE!, Sucks News, and Skip's Corner.  Most of the content has been contributed by club members.  This has been a group effort and I hope we can keep it that way.

John Torrison's garage in Manitowoc was the original home of the Coachmen Car Club.  As most of you know the "turntable" is actually a large steel disc on the floor in Torr's garage.  It allows you to drive in, stop on the disc, and push the car completely around so you are then facing the doors.  Now you can drive straight out.  The turntable was, and still is, a functional device in that garage.  Torr's garage turntable is a metaphor for our Coachmen's Turntable . . . I may need an english tutor here!

TODAY'S LINEUP
Our "Anniversary Edition"  Turntable features the  original  release which created the Turntable on September 23, 2013.   OK!  it's a bit rough around the edges but it got the job done!  /  From 1973 to 1978 the ELO ruled!  Do you know who they are?  Check out The flipSide and see. /  And finally take a look at Sucks News - Today's article really qualifies for "Sucks".  The Equifax breach may never become a problem for you but you need to check on their site to find out if your information was part of the breach and if it was TAKE ACTION! Sucks News will give you some guidance.

Till Next week / Stay safe and I'll see you on the Turntable!

Oh Hi!

Either you guys are early or I'm late  . . . .   I prefer to think you guys are early!!!

As you can see I'm here at Torr's garage.  Remember? . . . kind of a mint green with white trim?  The garage door is open and I'm trying like heck to pull the pin on the turntable.  At first I thought it was stuck but I can see that somebody welded it in there!!  I'm going to need tools . . so while I'm working why don't you all listen to a tune . . . . "Old Time Rock & Roll" . . .  Feel free to dance in your underwear!!!  I won't look.
Back already? . . .  Man! . . . this is a lot of work!!!  As you can see I've got my tools and I've been able to remove one pin. Now I'm going after the second.  You know,  you guys really aren't much help . . . all standing around with your hands in your pockets.  Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter . . this takes skill . . . seems to me that getting a hood open took all the skill our club could muster.  So, while I work, why don't you think about what you were doing when this song became a hit in 1959.   See ya on the other side.
OK both pins out . . . .  now where is the handle that fits in the turntable.  Hey Torr!!! where's the handle???  Gee it looks like I'm going to have to do everything myself!!!  Alright, while I find the handle,  here's another tune out of 1959.  Be right back.
Well . . .  will you look at that!  The handle is in,  a little WD40 and that turntable is spinning like a top!  We'll be using this platter . .  ahhh . . Turntable to spin tunes, stories or whatever comes to mind.  Well, that about wraps it up for now.

"Hey Torr, my hands are dirty.  Is there a sink is this place? . . . did anyone think to bring beer???"

See ya next week

Good Day!

Hard to believe that September is already half over!  Starting to see some peaks of fall color . . . still . . . warm days and cool nights.  School buses on the street are beginning to look normal.  Fall will fall apart soon enough and it'll be time to dust off the rakes and get busy in the yard. Is there any season that starts or ends without me having to DO SOMETHING???
I'm in favor of creating a TOTALLY NEW season called "FLUMMER" . . . kind of a mix between summer and fall where you don't have to do anything like plant flowers or rake leaves. What do you think?  Maybe we could call a "Special Session" of Congress and get a law passed.  At least something would be accomplished this year!!!

The Turntable continues to feature our old High School music.  I gotta say . . . I love the oldies!  The flipSide is featuring Charlie Rich. Remember him?  1970's "Behind Closed Doors" was one of my favorites back then . . . still is!  PLEASE BE SURE TO TUNE INTO PICTURESQUE!  This week it includes a kind of quiz!  If you can figure out how to place a note in the "comments" section please express your opinion there!
Till Next week / Stay safe and I'll see you on the Turntable!

"So Rare" is a popular song published in 1937 by composer Jerry Herst and lyricist Jack Sharpe.[1] It became a hit for Jimmy Dorsey in 1957.
"I'm Gonna Get Married" is a 1959 R&B/pop hit written by Harold Logan and Lloyd Price [1]and recorded by Lloyd Price. The single was his follow-up to "Personality" and, like that entry, "I'm Gonna Get Married" went to number one on the Billboard R&B chart, where it stayed for three consecutive weeks. The single was the last of his four number ones, as well as his fifth Top 40 single, peaking at number three for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart.[2]
Buddy Holly is a studio album by Buddy Holly. It was released by Coral Records on February 20, 1958. The album collects Holly's four hit singles released on the Coral label; "Words of Love", "Peggy Sue", "I'm Gonna Love You Too", and "Rave On!". The backing group was Buddy Holly's current band, the Crickets.  Some re-releases include the tracks from Holly's next single, "Early in the Morning" backed with "Now We're One", and "Take Your Time", the B-side of the single "Rave On".
The Del-Vikings (also known as The Dell-Vikings) are an American doo-wop musical group, who recorded several hit singles in the 1950s, and continued to record and tour with various lineups in later decades. The group was notable for being one of the few racially integrated musical groups to attain success in the 1950s.

Good Morning Everyone

WOW!  What a weekend.  Hurricane Irma hitting Florida.  We watched The Weather Channel all Sunday afternoon.  Just couldn't stop. Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Ft. Myers, Sanibel . . . all areas with which we are familiar.  We have close friends living in all those locations.  As you all know Skip and Lynn had a home in Sanibel at one time so I'm sure they are watching this storm closely.
Vic has a home in Venice Beach near the Gulf so I'm certain he too is watching this storm.  Jerry Leyendecker lives in Gainesville Fl (upper middle part of Florida State) and will be in the path of this monster storm too.  We hope and pray that everyone stays safe.

The Turntable presenting songs of the late 50's and early 60's.  Today, one of my favorites, Dion sings "Lonely Teenager". . .   Hey! don't forget The flipSide . . . remember Eddie Rabbitt?  Well four Great songs by Eddie in that lineup.  My bet is you will remember all of them. Finally on PICTURESQUE!  Skip is in a . . . well . . . compromising position . . .  Agreed?    Till Next week / Stay safe and I'll see you on the Turntable!

"Lonely Teenager" is a song written by Alfred DiPaola, Silvio Faraci, and Salvatore Pippa and performed by Dion.[1] It is Dion's first solo single. The song reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #47 in the UK in 1960.[2]It was featured on his 1961 album, Alone with Dion.[3]
"Sweet Little Sixteen" is a rock and roll song written and first recorded by Chuck Berry, who released it as a single in January 1958. His performance of it at that year's Newport Jazz Festival was included in the documentary film Jazz on a Summer's Day. It reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100, Berry's second-highest position ever on that chart.

"Walk Right Back" is a 1961 song by Sonny Curtis that was recorded by The Everly Brothers, and went to No. 7 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.[2] Overseas, the song went No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart for three weeks.[1] Originally it was the B-side, then it was changed to the A-side.
"I'm Walkin'" is a 1957 song by Fats Domino, written together with Dave Bartholomew.
The single was Fats Domino's third release in a row to reach No. 1 on the R&B Best Sellers chart, where it stayed for six weeks. The single also continued Fats Domino's crossover appeal when "I'm Walkin'" peaked at No. 4 on the pop singles chart.[1]

Happy Labor Day!

Yeah, I know it's to honor the American labor union movement and the contributions it made adding to the strength and prosperity of the country.     Look . . . to me, Labor Day stands as the last day we can screw off before school starts.  I know that's a rather sophisticated viewpoint but is has served me well throughout my life.
While Labor Day provides a holiday for most of the country ,  "Hurricane Harvey" continues to hammer Houston and that whole southeast Texas area.  I don't think anyone knows how long it will take to get back to normal.  For some folks just being able to drive their car down a dry street would be a great improvement.  Check out SUCKS NEWS today.  There are a couple of videos that show some unexpected things that happened in the midst of the storm.

Barb's Summer Vacation takes an interesting turn on the way to Door County.  Check it out on PICTURESQUE!  The Impalas kick off the Turntable with "Sorry I ran all the way home"  The flipSide this week covers songs from the early 60's.  . . . Be Safe!

The song became a hit in the U.S., peaking at No. 14 on the Country Singles chart, No. 5 on the Black Singles chart, and No. 7 on the Billboard Top 100.[2]  The record reached #2 on the U.S. pop chart, #14 on the R&B chart and #28 in the UK Singles Chart.[2] The song sold over one million copies, earning gold disc status.[3]
"That's All You Gotta Do" is a song written by Jerry Reed and performed by Brenda Lee.[1] The song reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #19 on the R&B chart in 1960.[2]  The song was ranked #71 on Billboard magazine's Top Hot 100 songs of 1960.[4]
Antoine "Fats" Domino, Jr. (born February 26, 1928) is an American pianist and singer-songwriter of French Creole descent. Five of his records released before 1955 sold over a million copies and were certified as gold records,[1] and he had 35 records in the U.S. Top 40. His musical style is based on traditional rhythm and blues, accompanied by saxophones, bass, piano, electric guitar, and drums.[1]
"Denise" is a song written by Neil Levenson. The song was inspired by his childhood friend, Denise Lefrak.[2] In 1963, the song became a popular top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, when recorded by the American doo-wop group Randy & the Rainbows. A cover version by the American new wave group Blondie, re-titled "Denis", reached number 2 in the UK Singles Chart in 1978.
