Hi Everyone !
New Years Resolutions

Picture

New Year resolutions are nice but we'd all be better off if we just decided to accomplish something TODAY instead of deciding what to do for the whole year.  For example;  Walk a half hour TODAY and then forget about it.  Pass on the sweet roll TODAY and count that as an accomplishment.

Realize that decisions come in different sizes and shapes.  The biggest decisions are usually pretty well thought out.  Buying a car?  That's a BIG decision!  We always take time to make sure it fits our needs and budget before going ahead with a purchase.  BIG decisions usually work out well.  It's the LITTLE decisions that get us into trouble.

Put a cupcake in front of me and I'll quickly decide to take it.  Why?  because it's there.  No thought, just reflex.  We come face to face with many of those "LITTLE" decisions every day.  What can we do?  Try to recognize that bad LITTLE decisions add up!  For example; a high credit card balance is probably the result of bad "LITTLE"decisions.

If you want to make a resolution to do simething different this year,  commit to carefully considering all your LITTLE decisions.  If you do that properly then next year you won't have to worry about "New Years Resolutions"  because there will be nothing to resolve.

GOOD MORINING EVERYONE!!
                                                                                  TAXES

Picture

CAN BE TAXING

Wish someone would have told me that years ago!  It would have saved a lot of frustrationin trying to save money finding additional deductions.  Like the lady who tried to write off the basement as a "business expense" because her dogs "did their business" down there.

Some of MY tax issues are self inflicted.  For example, living in Minnesota.  Here they tax my social security benefits . . . Wisconsin wouldn't.  Oh well, I guess it's the price of living the high life! . . . Don't you agree?

Dale has been running hard - He told me earlier this week he was  now off to Egypt! - Anyway, he stopped in Wisconsin long enough to do a travelogue on Burma (Myanmar).  Spectacular photos!
                                       GULLIVER'S TRAVELS . . .
don't miss it!

Good Morning Everyone!!

Dentistry is just different!
Picture
Sorry John M. but Dentistry is unique!  You walk in the room and, unlike surgery, you are awake for the entire event and you get to see the wonderful array of tools at the dentists disposal.  Drills, surgical knives, hammers . .  you know . . all the "little tools" of the trade.  Dentists usually make humoris remarks . . like . . "I won't use them ALL . . at the same time"  That's why patients pray for nitrous oxide or anything that can mentally remove themselves  from the room.

Don't believe that I've ever been strapped in like "this guy" but I'm pretty sure most dentists wish it could be done . . .  in a "kind, friendly way" of course.

You've probably guessed by now I had teeth pulled this week.  Now I find myself looking in the mirror at the teeth I have left  . . .  and consulting a "life expectancy" chart    . . . . .    c'est la vie!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!!
&

 WELCOME TO A NEW YEAR!

Economic Theory
Picture
ECONOMICS . . Seems to be a popular topic on the Turntable.  Snce we are already discussing individual "rational decisions" and "opportunity cost" (Micro)  why not dive a bit deeper?

Can we justify "Trickle down" economics? (Macro)

In my opinion, "Trickle down" economics does not work.  Never has worked and never will.   Yet we hang on to the concept like it's the answer to all our economic ills.

I believe in "Trickle up" economics.  I'll tell you why.

First 70% of our lovely economy is supported and stimulated by consumer purchases.  Interestingly 40% of consumers are near broke.  No money, no purchases which results in a slow economy and for those 40%,  difficulty just surviving.   Cut taxes for the general population and the money is "immediately spent" resulting in a need to reduce inventory, add manufacturing capicity and create jobs resulting in economic growth.  Pretty simple actually.   - "Trickle up?"  Yes!!

Giving money to large corporations does nothing . . . why add to capacity when there is no increase in "demand"?  Most of that money will be used to buy back  stock or increase dividends.  If you own a ton of stock that may help "you" but most folks (40%/45% ) can't afford to risk money in the stock market.  - "Trickle Down?"  No!!

There you go folks . . .  New Year . . . New bone to pick.
(P.S.  I am not a Communist or Socialist for hevens sake!)

Special Note!  Gulliver just returned from Bangkok Thailand . . . don't miss this week's GULLIVERS TRAVELS!
