Good Morning Everyone!

Picture
It's not Halloween yet but it's just around the corner! Make sure you're ready!

I'm not sure kids these days understand what "Trick or Treat" really means.  Last year I told one of the little guys "I'll take the Trick" . . . He was only about 4 years old but he looked at me like I was from a different planet!  Oh well, I just gave him the candy and he left with a big smile on his face.

Bad time of year for this...  but then                              "stuff happens!"

The first Repair company came in ($95.00) and said the heat exchange unit is DEAD!  "You might want to contact your installing company to see if they will cover the "really expensive" labor to install the new heat exchange."

Good Morning!

Itsy Bitsy Spider went up the water spout, then down came the spider to wipe my furnace out

Picture
I called the original installer (Aspen Air) they sent a rep over ($79.00) and he confirmed . . . the heat exchanger was DEAD!  Because the furnace was so new (installed 2013) the company sent a second "more experienced" rep ( $295.00) to confirm the diagnosis.

"YEP! IT'S DEAD!  Parts should be under warranty, the installation normally would be covered but you installed the unit mid-April 2013 - and this is September 2018.  SORRY, you are 4.5 months out of labor warranty.  It will cost $2,025 to install the heat exchange unit.  Oh! and by the way, the parts are coming from a warehouse in Texas that is currently under water.  Could be a while."

So, after talking to the contractor who is currently remodeling our bathroom  (great time for a furnace problem right?)  he suggested I contact Center Point Energy (our gas company) to check it out - "they stock parts for these things and they are really great!"  What the heck . . . I called them.

Center Point quoted a fixed charge of $1,025 to install the heat exchange unit (half my current quote).  I said "This is a no-brainer!  You get the job!"  They said... "OK!!!  First, we'll send a Master Mechanic ($295.00) to take a look."  I told them "what the heck!  I've already been told by 2 companies and 3 service reps that the heat exchange unit is dead and needs to be replaced!  Why don't you just order the parts and install them?"  They said, "the problem is not always what it appears to be."

When the "Master Mechanic"  from Center Point Energy arrived I told him "we had 3 service reps confirm the heat exchange was burned out.  Is this check-up really necessary?  Time is wasting and it's getting cold outside!!! Why don't you just order the parts?"  Undaunted he asked that I show him where the furnace was.  I did!  After about 25 minutes I went down to check progress.

"Here's your problem".  He showed me fragments of a spider that he found in the heat exchange unit blocking the air flow.  I said, "what now?"  He said "nothing!... Your furnace is just fine". . .  UNBELIEVABLE!!!

After a complete refund from Aspen Air  ($374.00)...  things worked out pretty well for me!                                              Not so much for the spider though.

AND NO!... I DON'T KNOW IF THE SPIDER WAS A REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT!!!

Santo & Johnny were an American rock and roll music duo from Brooklyn, New York, comprising brothers Santo and Johnny Farina.[1]
They are known best for their instrumental melody "Sleep Walk", one of the biggest hits of the golden age of rock 'n' roll, which became a regional success and eventually scored the top of the Billboard pop chart when it was released nationally during 1959.[2]
The Coasters are an American rhythm and blues/rock and roll vocal group who had a string of hits in the late 1950s. Beginning with "Searchin'" and "Young Blood", their most memorable songs were written by the songwriting and producing team of Leiber and Stoller.[1] Although the Coasters originated outside of mainstream doo-wop, their records were so frequently imitated that they became an important part of the doo-wop legacy through the 1960s.
The Drifters are a long-lasting American doo-wop and R&B/soul vocal group. They were originally formed to serve as a backing group for Clyde McPhatter (of Billy Ward and his Dominoes) in 1953.  The Drifters recorded 13 Billboard Hot 100 top 30 chart hits.
"Lavender's Blue" (sometimes called "Lavender Blue") is an English folk song and nursery rhyme dating to the 17th century. It has a Roud Folk Song Index number of 3483. It has been recorded in various forms since the 20th century and some pop versions have been hits in the US and UK charts.

No mercy . . . 4 months outside our 5-year warranty means we pay for the labor to repair.  Oh well, could have been worse, It could have blown up!  Not really though, auto shut off systems keep that from happening.  OK! OK! I'll stop grumbling!

Here's today's lineup!

                   Hi Everyone!

Wow!  Lucky me!  My furnace earned a RED TAG last Saturday!  I could not have been prouder . . . until I found that it meant my heating system was going to be down for over a week.  Weather prognosticators predict a freeze Friday nite!  How fun is that?
