Happy Memorial Day!

Picture

Memorial Day (previously, but now seldom, called Decoration Day[1]) is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the military personnel who have died in the performance of their military duties while serving in the United States Armed Forces.[2] The holiday is observed on the last Monday of May. The holiday was formerly observed on May 30 from 1868 to 1970.[3]

Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial start of summer in the United States,[4] while Labor Day, the first Monday of September, marks the unofficial start of autumn.  (WIKI)

Good Morning Everyone

Here comes Summer!

Picture

It's Wednesday, late afternoon; sirens start to whale.  Tornados spotted, on the ground, less than 5 miles south of our location, coming directly toward us.  We hit the basement; fortunately for us, we have a pretty nice basement.  We turned the TV on and watched as the announcers frantically implored all those in our area to seek shelter.

We checked the weather outside the sliding glass doors next to the pool.  Nothing . . . No lightning, no large hail, no wind, and no debris flying in the air.  What the heck is going on?  The entire storm passed just to the east of our location.  We wondered if it was just a bit of weather hysteria.  The next day we saw this in the paper.

Eight tornadoes confirmed near the Twin Cities metro, but little damage.

Summer can be a fun time for all of us.  Just be sure to have your emergency plan in place.

Today, Bob Warrens contributes an article to the Club PUB.  The article, written by Schwab, does an excellent job of explaining bitcoins and blockchain technology.  (Though still off my list of investment ideas) - Thanks, Bob!

Here's this week's lineup.

Greetings!

Picture
Not ready for prime time!

Joan and I were out for our daily walk this week when we met a neighbor in her driveway. She wanted to tell us how her husband had purchased 2 bitcoins last year in February and paid $6,250 each.  "He was certain they had room to grow she proclaimed, today, they are worth $50,000 each!  My husband thinks I should invest in them too.  What do you think?"

I told her
, "You should never use Bitcoin and Invest in the same sentence. Speculate - is a much better term.  While your husband is willing to risk losing $12,500, you must ask yourself . . . "am I willing to lose $100,000?"

The term "Bitcoin" brings up bad memories of the stock market rout in 2000. An excellent case presented itself for each of the newly formed tech companies establishing a presence on the internet preparing to sell to the entire world.  Unlimited sales were possible!!!  Their stock prices skyrocketed!

Check out today's Club PUB to get a better understanding of Bitcoins.  You'll probably have to read it twice (which should also bring you to pause)!

Here's this week's lineup.

Turntable  - Top 50's music  . . .  The flipSide - The Beach Boys...
The  Club PUB - Investing Cryptomania's Uncertainties

Good Morning Everyone!

Climate change is causing the world's glaciers to shrink five times faster than they were in the 1960s, losing 369 billion tons of snow and ice each year, according to a study in the journal Nature.

According to a study in the journal Nature, climate change is causing the world's glaciers to shrink five times faster than they were in the 1960s, losing 369 billion tons of snow and ice each year.

Researchers used ground and satellite measurements to look at 19,000 glaciers. They found that those shrinking fastest are in central Europe, the Caucasus region, western Canada, the US Lower 48 states, New Zealand and near the tropics, with an average loss of more than 1% of their mass per year.

"In these regions, at the current glacier loss rate, the glaciers will not survive the century," said lead author Michael Zemp, director of the World Glacier Monitoring Service at the University of Zurich.

Southwestern Asia is the only region of 19 where glaciers were not shrinking, which Zemp said was due to local climate conditions.

Check the Club PUB and see what some glaciers are hiding.

It's funny how COVID has changed our lives.  Make no mistake, our lives have changed.  Massive changes in the economy, education, recreation . . . just about everything we do has been changed.  Will it last?  Your guess is as good as mine.  All I know is that I'm looking forward to some sort of reality that is not restriced by fear.

It can happen . . . it's in all our best interests.

Get your shot!
