"Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" was written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach for the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. This single by B.J. Thomas reached number 1 on charts in the United States, Canada, Norway and reached number 38 in the UK Singles Chart.  It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks in January 1970 and was also the first American number-one hit of the 1970s. The song also spent seven weeks atop the Billboard adult contemporary chart.  Billboard ranked it as the No. 4 song of 1970.

1984

Time After Time
" is a song by American singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper. It was recorded by Lauper for her debut studio album, "She's So Unusual" (1983), with Rob Hyman  (co-writer and founding member of the rock band The Hooters), contributing backing vocals. The track was produced by Rick Chertoff and released as a single on January 27, 1984. It was the second single to be released from the album and became Lauper's first #1 hit in the U.S.

One Bad Apple
" was a number-one hit single released by The Osmonds on November 14, 1970. It debuted on the Billboard Hot 100  on January 2, 1971. It hit the top of the chart on February 13, 1971 and stayed there for five weeks. It also reached number six on the R&B chart.  Billboard ranked it as the No. 4 song for 1971.
1983
"
Total Eclipse of the Heart" is a song recorded by Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler.  It became Tyler's biggest career hit, hitting number one in several countries including the UK, where it was the fifth-best-selling single in 1983, and the US, making her the first and only Welsh singer to reach the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100.  It was Billboard's number-six song of the year for 1983.

" is a song written by American folk rock singer Jim Croce. Released as part of his 1973 album Life and Times,  the song was a Number One pop hit for him, spending two weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100  in July 1973.  Billboard ranked it as the No. 2 song for 1973.

1981

I Love a Rainy Night
" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist Eddie Rabbitt.  It was released in November 1980 as the second single from his album "Horizon".  It reached number one on the Hot Country Singles, and Adult Contemporary Singles chart in 1981. The song succeeded Dolly Parton's song "9 to 5"  at the number 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart - the last time, to date, that the pop chart featured back-to-back country singles in the number one position. It was written by Rabbitt, Even Stevens and David Malloy.

Alone Again (Naturally)" is a song by Irish singer-songwriter Gilbert O'Sullivan. It was released in 1972 and in total,  spent six weeks, non-consecutively, at #1 position on the United States Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.  Billboard ranked it as the No. 2 song for 1972.  In Casey Kasem's American Top 40 of the 1970's, "Alone Again (Naturally)" ranked as the fifth most-popular song of the decade.   "Alone Again (Naturally)" also spent six weeks at number one on the Easy Listening chart.   The track reached #3 in the UK Singles Chart.

Rosanna
" is a million-selling Gold-certified hit single, written by David Paich and performed by the American rock band Toto, the opening track and the first single from their 1982 album "Toto IV".  This song won the Record of the Year Grammy Award in 1983 presentations.  Rosanna was also nominated for the Song of the Year award. In musician circles, the song is known for its highly influential namesake half-time shuffle, as well as the ending guitar solo played by guitarist Steve Lukather.

Rhinestone Cowboy
" is a song written by Larry Weiss and most famously recorded by American country music singer Glen Campbell with instrumental backing by the Wrecking Crew,  L.A. session musicians.  The song enjoyed immense popularity with both country and pop audiences. Released in May 1975, "Rhinestone Cowboy" immediately caught on with both country and pop audiences. The song spent that summer climbing both the Billboard Hot Country Singles and Billboard Hot 100 charts before peaking at No. 1 by season's end - three non-consecutive weeks on the country chart, two weeks on the Hot 100. Billboard ranked it as the No. 2 song for 1975.

The Age of Aquarius
" or "Let the Sunshine In") is a medley of two songs written for the 1967 musical "Hair" by James Rado & Gerome Ragni (lyrics), and Galt MacDermot (music), released as a single by American R&B group the 5th Dimension. The song peaked at number one for six weeks on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart in the spring of 1969. The single topped the American pop charts and was eventually certified platinum in the U.S. by the RIAA.  Instrumental backing was provided by session musicians known as the Wrecking Crew.

" is a 1974 hit single by the Native American rock band Redbone.  The song peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in April 1974. It spent 18 weeks in the Top 40 and landed as the 4th most popular song on the Hot 100 for 1974. The single was certified gold by the RIAA on April 22, 1974, which indicates that it had sold over half a million copies in the United States.

" is a song performed by American pop duo Captain & Tennille. It was their 13th charting hit in the United States, and their second #1 hit on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

Billboard named "The Way We Were" as the number 1 pop hit of 1974. Instrumental backing was provided by L.A. session musicians from the Wrecking Crew.  The song won the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, Grammy Award for Song of the year. In 1998, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and finished at number 8 on AFI's 100 Years . .  100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema in 2004. It was also included in the list of Songs of the Century, by the Recording Industry Association of America and National Endowment for the Arts.  

1979
"Y.M.C.A." is a song by the American disco group Village People.  It was released in 1978 as the only single from their third studio album Cruisin' (1978). The song reached number two on the US charts in early 1979 and reached number one in the UK  around the same time, becoming the group's biggest hit. It is one of fewer than forty singles to have sold 10 million (or more) physical copies worldwide. 
1968
"This Guy's in Love with You" is a song written by Bjurt Bacharach and Hal David, and recorded by Herb Alpert.  Although known primarily for his trumpet playing as the leader of the Tijuana Brass,  Alpert sang lead vocals on this solo recording, arranged by Bacharach. The song reached #7 on Billboard Hot 100 in 1968
1983
"Every Breath You Take" is a song by English rock band The Police on the band's 1983 album Synchronicity.  Written by Sting,  the single was the biggest hit of 1983, topping the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for eight weeks (the band's only number-one hit on that chart), and the UK Singles Chart for four weeks. It also topped the Billboard Top Tracks chart for nine weeks.
