1970
"Close to You" was the first Burt Bacharach/Hal David composition Carpenters covered. The song was recorded time and time again during the sixties, but didn't do well at all until the Carpenters version. It became Richard and Karen Carpenter's first RIAA-certified Gold single, as well as their first Billboard Hot 100 single that reached the Top 10. It stayed at number 1 for 4 weeks, and became Carpenter's iconic song.

1975
"Love Will Keep Us Together" is a song written by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield. It was first recorded by Sedaka himself in 1973 and was released as a single in France. American pop duo Captain & Tennille  covered the song in 1975, with instrumental backing by L.A. session musicians from the Wrecking Crew and had a worldwide hit with their version.
1964
"Hello, Dolly!" is the title song of the popular 1964 musical of the same name.  Louis Armstrong's version was inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001.  The music and lyrics were written by Jerry Herman.​

1969
"Bad Moon Rising" is a song written by John Fogerty and performed by Creedence Clearwater Revival.  It was the lead single from their album Green River and was released in April 1969, four months before the album. The song reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart for three weeks in September 1969.  It was CCR's second gold single.

Take Me Home, Country Roads" is a song written by Bill Danoff, Taffy Nivert, and John Denver,  and initially recorded by John Denver. It was included on his 1971 breakout album "Poems, Prayers & Promises";  the single went to number 1 on the Record World  Pop Singles Chart and the Cash Box Top 100, and number 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. 

1978
"Shadow Dancing" is a disco song performed by English singer-songwriter Andy Gibb that reached number one for seven weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. Albhy Galuten (who also produced this song) arranged the song with Barry Gibb. While Andy Gibb would have three more Top 10 hits in the U.S., this would be his final chart-topping hit in America. The song became a platinum record. 
1968
"Stoned Soul Picnic" is a 1968 song by Laura Nyro.  The best-known version of the song was recorded by The 5th Dimension,  and was the first single released from their album of the same title.  It was the most successful single from that album, reaching #3 on the U.S. Pop chart and #2 on the Billboard R&B chart.  It became a platinum record. 

1983
"Flashdance... What a Feeling" is a song from the 1983 film Flashdance,  written by Giorgio Moroder, Keith Forsey, and Irene Cara,  and performed by Cara.  The song was the #3 single of the year in 1983 on the Billboard year-end chart. In 2008, the song was ranked at #26 on Billboard's All Time Top 100, which commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Billboard Hot 100.

"Ebony and Ivory" is a 1982 number-one single by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder. It was released on March 29 of that year. The song is featured on McCartney's album Tug of War.  A self-empowerment hit that tackles issues of racial equality,  the song reached number one on both the UK and the U.S. charts.  It reappears on McCartney's All the Best! hits compilation (1987), and also on the UK two-disc version of Wonder's The Definitive Collection  greatest hits compilation (2002). In 2013 Billboard Magazine, ranked the song as the 69th biggest hit of all-time on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.  

1969
"Crystal Blue Persuasion" released as a single in June 1969, "Crystal Blue Persuasion" became one of the biggest hits for the group, peaking at number two on the Billboard Pop Singles chart.  The single version differs from the album version of the song with horn overdubs added to the mix and a longer bongos overdub before the third verse.
 1975
"Thank God I'm a Country Boy"  released as a single and went to No. 1 on both the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles and Billboard Hot 100 charts  The song topped both charts for one week each, first the country chart (on May 31), and the Hot 100 chart a week later.
1965
"King of the Road" is a 1964 song written and originally recorded by country singer Roger Miller.  The lyrics tell of the day-to-day life of a vagabond hobo who despite being poor (a "man of means by no means") revels in his freedom, describing himself humorously as the "king of the road". It was Miller's fifth single for Smash Records.

"Everyday People" is a 1968 song by Sly and the Family Stone.  It was the first single by the band to go to number one on the Soul singles chart and the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.  It held that position, on the  Hot 100, for four weeks from February 15, 1969, until March 14, 1969, and is remembered as a popular song of the 1960s. Billboard ranked it as the No. 5 song of 1969.

1970
"Bridge over Troubled Water" became Simon & Garfunkel's biggest hit single,  and it is often considered their signature song.  It was a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100  for six weeks, and it also topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Canada, France and New Zealand.  It was a top five hit in eight other countries as well, eventually selling over six million copies worldwide, making it among the best-selling singles.   It became one of the most performed songs of the twentieth century, with over 50 artists, among them Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin,   covering the song. It was ranked number 48 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
1977
"Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)" is a song by Rod Stewart,  recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield, Alabama for his 1976 album A Night on the Town.  The song became his second US chart topper on the Billboard Hot 100,  peaked at #5 in UK, #3 in Australia and charted well in other parts of the world as well. It was the number 1 song in Billboard's 1977 year-end chart. 
1971
"Joy to the World" , has been described by members of Three Dog Night as a "kid's song" and a "silly song",  topped the main singles charts in North America, was certified gold by the RIAA,  and has since been covered by multiple artists.

A question was raised in Sunday School by a teacher who asked, "Who was Jeremiah"?  A young, enthusiastic little guy sitting in the back raised his hand and said, "why teacher, everyone knows that one . . . Jeremiah was a bullfrog!!"
