Earth, Wind & Fire![]() Maurice White was an American singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, arranger and bandleader. He was the founder of the band Earth, Wind & Fire. Born: December 19, 1941, Memphis, Tennessee Died: February 3, 2016, Los Angeles, CA Earth, Wind & Fire (EWF) is an American band that has spanned the musical genres of R&B, soul, funk, jazz, disco, pop, rock, Latin and African. They are one of the most successful bands of the 20th century. Rolling Stone Magazine described them as "innovative, precise yet sensual, calculated yet galvanizing" and declared that the band "changed the sound of black pop". The band was founded in Chicago by Maurice White in 1969. Maurice White died on February 4, 2016, after a suffering for some years with Parkinson's disease. He was survived by his wife, his two sons, and his brothers Verdine and Fred. Maurice . . . it's a fact! You were a gift to the music world. We'll miss you!
