Hi Everyone

Well tomorrow morning we leave Florida for home so I'm thinking "traveling music".  We'll be traveling to Virginia Beach for a couple of days then up to see Bill on Saturday.

At pretty much the same time Tom Westover is returning to Washington from LA traveling the entire California Coast.  I thought I would try to play songs that reflect both the East and West Coast travel.

By the way, these YouTube videos are really great so make sure you fill your entire screen and watch as they play!

Here Goes!
Finally the ultimate Travelin' Man.  Ricky Nelson . . .
Hope all is well with everyone.  Bill, we'll be seeing you soon.

Howdy Everyone!

This week I tried to do something a bit different.  This is an overview of a song that was really big in 1960 but has a much bigger history.  For example, I did not know that "Sparks of Rhythm" were the original group that sang the song.  Feel free to stop listening to this one off early.  It's a job to listen to.  Note:  this version is not in Bill's library!  And I won't be putting it there!  The "Jimmy Jones" version is in Bill's music as is the "James Taylor" version.  I will be adding the Dell Shannon version when I next see Bill (hopefully in early May)

"Handy Man" is a rock and roll song credited to singer Jimmy Jones and songwriter Otis Blackwell. It was originally recorded by The Sparks Of Rhythm, a group Jones had been a member of when he wrote it, although he was not with them when they recorded it. In 1959, Jones recorded the song himself, in a version which had been reworked by Blackwell[1], who also produced the session. "Handy Man" went to number three on the R&B charts and number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1960, becoming a million seller.[1] The song is noted for the "Come-uh come-uh come-uh come come,/Yeagh Yeagh Yeagh", heard in the introduction and the coda. The song was a hit again in 1964 for Del Shannon and again in 1977 for James Taylor. Measured in terms of peak position on any Billboard chart, Taylor's version of the song was the most successful, peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the adult contemporary chart.[2] Taylor's version also earned him his second Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Male. Taylor's version featured Leah Kunkel, the ex wife of Russ Kunkel, as backup singer.(thanks WIKI)
We're never to old to learn are we!  Remember Bill . . . . this is not High School . . .  you must take notes!

Till next week

Holy Cow!

Reading all the "weather news"  this week is getting me depressed.  I can't imagine how it is for you guys who are "experiencing" it.  I'm thinking the prevailing mood is LOW.  Soooo (you knew this was coming right?)  We will try to lift your mood with the Eagles!!!!

Tom,  you will be going back to Edmonds WA soon.  Why don't you play some Eagles music on the ride.  I played this stuff all the way across country in my little white Javlin when I was transferred to San Francisco back in 1974.  It's a time warp!  You're home before you know it.
The Electric Light Orchestra - make sure you watch and listen to this one.  If it doesn't put you in a good mood . . .  nothing will!.  Turn it Up!!!!!

Despite early singles success in the United Kingdom, the band were initially more successful in the United States, billed as "The English guys with the big fiddles".[1] They soon gained a cult following despite lukewarm reviews back in their native United Kingdom. By the mid-1970s, they had become one of the biggest-selling acts in music. From 1972 to 1986, ELO accumulated 27 Top-40 hit singles in both the UK and the US. The group also scored 20 Top 20 UK hit singles, as well as 15 Top-20 hit singles in the US (as charted by Billboard magazine). The band also holds the record for having the most BillboardHot 100 Top 40 hits of any group in US chart history without ever having a number one single.[ (thanks WIKI)
Hey Bill . . . Sorry but even after using all my "extensive" influence, I have been unable to turn the snow off in your neighborhood!  Doesn't mean I won't keep trying  Let me know when I'm successful?

Music will lift us all!

OK Guys

This will be the last time I bring up the weather.  I will try to eliminate the contraversy between our Mid West and Washington members (like this will work!!!)

Here are the temperatures at 2:00PM in all locations on Sunday April 7th     (Looks like everyone has equally crappy weather)

Edmonds, Washington - Federal Way, Washington       Average 41 degrees (and Rain)

Green Bay, Wis - Appleton, Wis - Mequon, Wis -  New Berlin, Wis /  Average 41 degrees (and rain in selected locations)

*London England - 43 degrees (wet)

None of these temperatures are to attractive.  But I would say the Brits have it all over us when it comes to HEAT!  Therefore we will throw the lead to them for entertainment this week.  Here's a couple from the Beatles!  Both are from the album "Abby Road"
The following selection is one that I personally LOVE!  There were some real jewels back in the 1920's . . . this is one of them!

"'Deed I Do" is a 1926 jazz standard composed by Fred Rose with lyrics by Walter Hirsch.[1] It was introduced by vaudeville performer S. L. Stambaugh[2] and popularized by Ben Bernie's recording.[3] It was recorded by influential clarinetist and bandleader Benny Goodman as his debut recording in December 1926 with Ben Pollack and His Californians.[4] Ruth Etting's rendition of the song became a top ten hit in 1927.[5]  {Thanks Wik}

Hope everybody had a nice weekend and that you are having fun listening with Bill.

Keep smiling Bill and we'll see you next week.
