My apologies to Tom and Ginny for not posting this trip in December 2019. Well! We won't miss out! Here it is . . . a delightful Thanksgiving excursion to Vancouver in 2019. THE WESTOVERS THANKSGIVING TRIP TO VANCOUVERWe just returned from Vancouver for a quick trip during Thanksgiving. Over the years, we have traveled there by car and train but with the drive being more problematic due, it part, the increased boarder security and the train ride although scenic is just too long. Enjoy the weather, stay warm and be careful out there. Westy A highlight of our brief visit was shopping for the "organic gemstone", Ammolite. https://www.gemsociety.org/article/ammolite-jewelry-gem-information/ On the enclosed picture, Ginny and I are standing in front of what is claimed to be (one of) the largest fossilized Ammonite (the animal from which the gem originates) in existence.

Bob and I were in Utah and AZ for seven days early in October. These Photos are of Bob and I hiking in The Narrows, where the Virgin River gets very narrow at the end of Zion Canyon in Zion National Park. The photo below show the "Narrows" are really narrow. We walked in water up to two feet deep almost all the way. These 3 photos were taken in Antelope Canyon near Page, AZ. Part of it cuts 65 feet underground and another part cuts through rock so the top is 100 feet above you. Below left shows Bob drinking the last drop because of the barren surroundings in Kodachrome State Park in Utah. Below right shows me in the same park--behaving myself. I must say we had a fun time!
So there I was yesterday, in my garage (Man Cave) staring out at the rain and descending into a state of depression (not really). What do I do now? How do I revive my long planned "car day"? The two pictures address the dilemma . This first picture is what I intended to do . . (display the Cobra along with fictionalized fantasy tales about my storied racing experiences foisted on any passerby that would listen). This is what I actually did yesterday to get my Cobra "fix" at the local mall. A SPECIAL NOTE FROM GINNY "I don't usually dive in here but thought I'd mention it's the Alderwood Mall in Lynwood, WA. I like to go there and watch parents make their kids suffer . . they put them in the Cobra and you can tell the kids are thinking, what did I do to deserve this? Or, couldn't you have found a pony instead? Some look like they're about to bawl but most just endure, with puzzled expressions." Ginny "Dosen't look that way to me! Although, I must say, the "puzzled expression seems to fit."

Alaska prices have taken me aback, even after living up here 50+ years. You’d think I’d be inured to them. It must be the sudden contrast with Manitowoc prices. And Juneau and Anchorage are a-crawl with tourists. But I had a moment on the river that made all worthwhile. We were quietly drifting in smooth, blue-green glacial water, carried by the swift current along a wild shoreline. At least two loon families were competing to be heard, all calling at once and using their whole repertoires of laughing and haunting cries. A moment so perfect that effort was needed to hold back tears. Good thoughts,

BARB'S RESPONSE This was in our front yard when we arrived home March 30 th at 9:30 pm Well, on behalf of the club . . . we are glad you both are home safely too! Gary . . . Nobody want stuff like this ever to happen. But when it does it's comforting to know that you are surrounded by a loving family. You'll be back on that bike before you know it . . . and your trip to Florida next year will be twice as much fun. Harv A real fun visit for all of us! John and Sharon stayed with us from Saturday thru Tuesday. On Wednesday we visited Jerry Leyendecker in Gainsville. The time we spent together was packed as tightly with fun as we could manage. On arriving they discovered it was my birthday. They surprised me in the parking lot with flowers and balloons! First time in my life I remember getting that combination on a birthday. THANKS AGAIN!!! |
